The Predator franchise may be about to get a whole lot more exciting! Remember the original Predator? The one that launched Arnold Schwarzenegger into action-hero stratosphere? Well, fans have long yearned for his return, and it seems those wishes might finally be answered.
Back in 1990, when Predator 2 hit theaters, many were disappointed by the absence of Schwarzenegger, the star of the first film. Plans for his return in some capacity fell through, and the franchise moved on, exploring the Alien vs. Predator crossover, and other sequels and prequels, including Predators, The Predator, and the recent Prey and Predator: Badlands. While there were attempts to get Schwarzenegger to make cameo appearances in Predators and The Predator, he declined, wanting a more substantial role.
Now, there's a glimmer of hope! Dan Trachtenberg, the director, has been meeting with Schwarzenegger. Trachtenberg shared with Collider that their interaction was encouraging. Schwarzenegger is well aware of the franchise's staying power and is excited to rejoin the Predator universe.
But here's where it gets interesting: Producer Ben Rosenblatt confirmed to Deadline that Trachtenberg and Schwarzenegger have had multiple meetings. Rosenblatt stated that getting Arnold back would be the 'holy grail' of Predator movies, and that Schwarzenegger has been very interested in what they're doing.
This is a big deal! It's a clear indication that both parties are serious about making something happen.
And this is the part most people miss... While Schwarzenegger provided the voice of Dutch in the video game Predator: Hunting Grounds, the character also made an unconscious cameo in the animated film Predator: Killer of Killers. This appearance might have opened the door for a more substantial role in a future Predator project.
